Jan Estep, "An Empty Sky,” written during “Meditation and the Spirit of Creativity,” silent retreat taught by Anna Douglas, Anne Cushman, Albert Flynn DeSilver, and Barbara Kaufman, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, Woodacre, CA, September 12 – 18, 2016.
An empty sky.
Before Sun arose, long ago, Moon broke open its heart, scattering crystals of soft dewy light.
Candy drops sprinkling down, click-clacking against brilliant glass.
Ting. Ting. Ting.
Form cracked open. Form cracked open scattering flakes and shards of crystal. Form cracked open scattershot into effluvial currents of wind and dust. A river flowing galactic.
High above, higher than you think possible, Ur-Moon and Ur-Sun watch time and space unfold.
I am moon. I am sun. I am universe.
Joy spills too from a cracked heart.
Ting. Ting. Ting.
